JP Sá Couto has over 36 years of history and is a national and international reference company in the field of Information and Communication Technologies.

jp.ik – jp inspiring knowledge – is the commercial brand of JP Sá Couto. Therefore, when we talk about JP Sá Couto, we are talking about jp.ik!

The Education business emerged in 2008 with the Magalhães Project in Portugal.

The first computer assembled in Portugal was named ‘Magalhães,’ in honour of the Portuguese navigator Ferdinand Magellan, who circumnavigated the globe in the 16th century. “The idea is to help young people navigate the ocean of knowledge.” Using Classmate PC technology, developed by Intel, designed for classroom use and study support. A personal computer for the child and, partially, a family computer.

The introduction of the Magalhães computer in the 1st cycle of basic education (BE) began in the 2008/09 school year in Portugal, under the e-Escolinha program, within the framework of the Technological Plan for Education, defined in the Government’s program. Unlike many other policies and initiatives developed until then, this measure was not confined to the school space.

jp.ik has already executed projects in more than 70 countries.

Led by JP Sá Couto, this was the first national technology initiative for education, through which more than 500,000 Magalhães computers were distributed to 1st cycle students. The project was a success, demonstrating knowledge in the context of educational technologies and the company’s preparation and logistical capacity in distributing equipment on a large scale, by delivering a computer to every Portuguese household.

Since then, we have led a pioneering initiative of technological projects related to education. The knowledge acquired from projects developed worldwide makes jp.ik the reference partner for creating, integrating, and promoting best practices in the use of technology in education.

jp.ik has already executed projects in more than 70 countries, led the implementation of more than 20 large-scale educational projects, impacting over 16 million students worldwide.

The integrated model developed by jp.ik – “Inspiring Knowledge Ecosystem” – is based on three fundamental pillars of a technology-based educational project: Technology, Engineering, and Pedagogy.

We are so proud of the path we have taken so far! But we always want more. We believe that we contribute daily to a technologically advanced society and, as a result, to a more sustainable and inclusive society.
